As someone who's personally been wrangling with the pain of building and maintaining my websites using various no-code tools, having burned thousands of dollars "trying" out different freelancers, and eventually taking the leap to re-imagine how it should ideally work by launching OhhWells, it's not surprising that when the term vibe-coding has started to go around like wildfire, I too start to wonder how far this could stretch the future of website design and development.
I've turned from skeptics, to let's give it a go, and eventually being really impressed with the results I'm getting. Overall, I think the best thing this new wave of innovation has given us is the sense of control, like finally. Regardless of who you are, where you're from or your background, you could finally turn your ideas into a working website, as long as you can communicate the ideas in your head clearly in plain English. I've split my work process into the following phases so you get a rough idea on how the landscape is changing, from before to after, and how we reimagined it by keeping human in the very centre.
Foundation: Figuring Out What You Want
In the past, choosing a website builder to host your website is a pretty scary decision, you choose once, paid an upfront fee, and is stuck with a poor platform despite the raging dissatisfaction because of loss aversion. You also do not want to look bad for choosing an obscure, new platform that could one day shut down due to a lack of funding and your site goes down with it. It's annoying and most of them just kinda leave you to figure it out on your own. With the rise of vibe-coding, it really got me thinking, what is everyone gets to own their website, like finally, where the platform's role is purely to help you accomplish what you need, in less time, less effort, less fighting with poorly designed tools?
That's exactly how we designed OhhWells to work. You signed up to an account, spin up your website (either via our template marketplace, or vibe code your own), and you own it, forever. We're just the "interface" that sits between you and your website so you can actually update it, with full control, without ever hiring a developer because you don't speak "tech language". It's fine, because that's our job and we're doing everything we can do make sure you don't ever need to learn it, forever. Why? Because you hate it, you don't like it, and you'd much rather to be focusing on stuff that sparks joy, and perhaps, your craft.
